THE GREAT ESCAPE

The great escape is a project exploring unique ways people shed their everyday lives to express identity, find like-minded people, and transcend the restrictions of normality.

This series follows beer-guzzling mudding fanatics, reptilian-Christian-thrash punk bands, nipple-clamping dominatrixes, shock-horror-clown rappers, and the Mad-Max post-apocalyptic Wastelanders of the Mojave Desert.

Submissives in the kink world seek to escape by surrendering control and belittling themselves. The Wastelanders of the Mojave desert create larger-than-life journeys for their alter-egos, allowing them to be the hero or a villain for a weekend. Juggalos, who find themselves outcasts in other circles, have created a surprisingly inclusive space through sensationalism, music, and love of Faygo.

Although each group is from vastly different socio-economic, ideological, and geographic backgrounds, everyone is brought together for similar goals: self-expression, acceptance, and community.
