MOTHERS OF MEDICAID
These photos were taken on behalf of the Tennessee Justice Center’s ongoing campaign to de-stigmatize the use of public healthcare benefits. While public healthcare programs, like Medicaid, have become the focus of a partisan political debate, the realities of the individuals impacted are often lost in generalizations. All of the women featured are mothers of medically complex children who have faced unjust cuts to their TennCare coverage that jeopardized the health of their children. This series of photos was designed to bridge the gap between people’s perceived notions of people on public assistance and the lived realities of mothers on TennCare, Tennessee’s Medicaid program.
