HINDSIGHT 2020

From the murder of George Floyd to the infamous riot at the US Capitol, civil unrest, misinformation, and polarization gripped the nation and pushed America against the guardrails of democracy. The integrity of our elections was questioned, the free press became targets, and the historic tradition of the peaceful transfer of power was broken. The cracks in the foundation of one of the world’s strongest democracies (according to the EIU’s democracy index) were on full display.

These warning signs culminated on January 6th, 2021, when thousands of Trump supporters breached the US Capitol during the certification of the 2020 election declaring Joe Biden as the 46th president. This series documents the vicious division in America between May 25, 2020 and January 6th in hopes that this history will not repeat itself.
